What we treat, and what to expect when you come in.
Eye exams
A careful look at how well you see, and how healthy your eyes are.
We check your sight, measure the pressure inside your eye, and look at the back of the eye where many problems begin. You leave knowing exactly where you stand.
Small-incision (phaco) surgery, here since 2007, with premium and laser-assisted options.
A cataract makes everything look faded or foggy. Through a small incision, the cloudy lens is broken up and replaced with a clear artificial one. Basir has offered phacoemulsification since 2007, for adults and children.
LASIK, PRK, SMILE and implantable lenses, for less reliance on glasses.
Laser vision correction reshapes the front of the eye so light focuses where it should; an implantable lens does the same job from inside the eye. Neither is right for everyone, so it starts with an honest assessment. Basir has performed excimer laser surgery since 2007.
From keratoconus to corneal transplant. The first corneal transplant in Iraq was done here.
The cornea is the clear window at the front of the eye. When it thins, scars or clouds over, sight suffers. In early 2008 Basir carried out the first corneal transplant in the Kurdistan Region and in Iraq.
Injections, laser and surgery for the retina and the back of the eye.
Diabetes, age, inflammation and injury can all affect the retina, the thin layer that turns light into sight. We look closely, explain what we find, and treat what needs treating, from injections and laser to surgery inside the eye.
Glaucoma is quiet. Catching it early protects the sight you have.
Glaucoma slowly damages the nerve that connects your eye to your brain, often without symptoms. Regular pressure checks and nerve scans let us act before sight is lost, with drops, laser or surgery when needed.
